W Back — We Won't Back Down
Where the dry winds of Texas meet the timeless landscapes of rural Japan.

W Back blends the grooves of Tex-Mex, born from the meeting of the American South and Mexico, with songs that celebrate Japan's changing seasons and the everyday lives of its people.

Since their formation in 1977, W Back has stayed true to its own path, never chasing trends and never looking back.

Their sound is not simply Country Rock, Tex-Mex, or Folk.

If anything, it is—

"Japonex Tex-Mex."
A uniquely Japanese brand of country music that crosses borders, continents, and generations.

Centered around vocalist and songwriter Koichirou Taniguchi, who writes and composes nearly all of the band's material, W Back creates a distinctive sound built upon the traditional foundation of drums, guitar, and bass, enriched by electric violin, banjo, and pedal steel guitar.

Combining a deep admiration for American roots music with a heartfelt connection to Japan's native landscapes and culture, W Back has remained a driving force in Japan's country rock scene, captivating audiences at live houses and festivals throughout the country.

The journey connecting the winds of Texas with the landscapes of rural Japan continues to this day.

1996 – Performed at the South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, USA

2004 – Released their second album, Keep on Truckin'

2015 – Released their third album, ZIPANGU

October 2026 – Scheduled release of their fourth album,
Leap First, Think Later! (Japanese title: 「考える前に飛べ！」)

乾いたテキサスの風と、どこか懐かしい日本の里山の風景。

アメリカ南部とメキシコが育んだテックス・メックスのグルーヴに、

日本の四季や人々の暮らしを歌う心を重ねる。

1977年の結成以来、W Backは流行に流されることなく自分たちだけの道を走り続けてきました。

そのサウンドは、カントリーロックでも、テックス・メックスでも、フォークでもない。

言うなれば——

「ジャポネックス・テックス・メックス」。

国境を越え、大陸を越え、時代を越えて走り続ける、日本発のジャパニーズ・カントリーです。

ほぼすべての作詞・作曲を手掛けるボーカル・谷口幸至朗を中心に、ドラム、ギター、ベースの基本編成に、エレクトリックバイオリン、バンジョー、ペダルスチールギターを加えた個性豊かなサウンドを展開。

アメリカのルーツミュージックへの憧れと、日本の原風景への想いをひとつにしたその音楽は、日本のカントリーロックシーンを牽引し続け、全国のライブハウスやフェスティバルで多くのファンを魅了してきた。

テキサスの風と日本の里山の風景を結ぶ旅は、今も続いている。
